Grosvenor Casino Support for Winter Beds

The Churches Winter Beds Project has praised the support of Grosvenor Casino during the recent cold spell. The casino provided nearly 500 meals over the period catering for all dietary requirements. Hot meals were either delivered by the casino to the shelter or were picked up by one of the 65 volunteers supporting the project.

Paul Woodman, part of the project steering team, said ‘The daily help with food from the casino was a God-send and our guests thoroughly enjoyed the high quality dinners. It has been a huge saving for both the overall cost of the project and the amount of volunteer time needed’.

The project was based at Southampton Lighthouse International Church and the Boathouse, hosted by Life Church. Guests accessed a referral through the city’s Day Centre for people who are homeless. Once inside the churches, they receive a hot meal and then sleep in a warm bed. Up to 10 people were hosted each night of the project.

On the final evening, Grosvenor Casino provided a three course meal for all the guests and volunteers, and have offered to host a meal to thank all the Winter Beds volunteers.
