SVC brave rain to deliver community event in Bitterne Park

Southampton Vineyard Church are based in Bitterne Park Triangle and organised a Community Fun Day at Riverside Park on 15th May to offer a chance for the local community to gather together, have some fun and find some joy, especially important after the challenges of the last couple of years. The event was free to all including use of inflatables, facepainting and crafts.

Whilst the weather wasn’t quite what was hoped for, it brought out a different side to the event, seeing everyone chipping in and pulling together to get set up and the rain certainly didn’t stop the children having fun. Several local organisations were represented, such as Southampton City Mission, Communibakes, the Real Nappy Network and Bitterne Park Growing places.

There are great relationships between individuals, churches, schools, traders and other organisations in the local area and events such as this and Christmas at the Triangle are great examples of what can be achieved when people pull together.

We were repeatedly asked, in the middle of the drizzle, if this was an event that would be a yearly occurrence... and whilst the rain down the back of the neck was a challenge, the fun, connections and relationships built left us so excited and encouraged and certainly not ruling out a (hopefully more sunny) Fun Day next year.
